November 15, 2023 -- Julia will be speaking at Virginia Tech about the bans and policies that limit trans futures and their role in the larger narrative of trans liberation, as part of their Transgender Day of Remembrance event. 6:30pm at Owens Ballroom, 150 Kent St, Blacksburg, VA, more details here.

August 17, 2023 -- Julia will be speaking about bisexual stereotypes and where they come from at the Optimist Collective’s Bi The Way series, which takes place at San Francisco's LGBT Center (1800 Market St San Francisco, CA 94102) at 5:30pm. Tickets for the event are free, but you need to RSVP first at Eventbrite.

August 12, 2023 -- Julia will be participating in Medium Day (a virtual conference organized by Medium), as part of the How The Media Gets Trans Coverage Wrong panel, moderated by Katherine Cross, and also featuring Jude Ellison S. June 15, 2023 -- Julia will be giving a keynote entitled “‘Biological Sex’ and the Pathologization of Transgender People” at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, as part of their Pride in Science Symposium. The event will take place from 12-5pm in Hess Seminar A, and will be carried virtually via Zoom.

April 29, 2023 -- Julia will be giving a keynote based on her Anti-Trans “Grooming” and “Social Contagion” Claims Explained essay, at San Jose’s Trans Day of Visibility. The event takes place starting at 10am, at San Jose City Hall’s Rotunda, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA.

April 1, 2023 -- Julia will be giving a keynote entitled “Balancing Acts and Bottom-Up Approaches to Trans Activism” at the Moving Trans History Forward conference. Sexed Up book readings & events:

September 22, 2022 -- Julia will be doing a Bisexual Visibility Day-themed Sexed Up book reading at Fabulosa Books (489 Castro St, San Francisco). The event begins at 7pm; while mask wearing is encouraged, the venue does not require them. More details can be found on the Facebook event page.

July 28, 2022 -- Julia will have an in person (and simultaneously live online) Conversation with Carol Queen about Julia’s new book Sexed Up. The event is FREE and will take place at the Berkeley Good Vibrations store (2504 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702) from 5:30 - 6:30pm PDT—there is very limited seating, so you must pre-register at Eventbrite if you wish to attend in person. July 21, 2022 -- “On Sexualization and Society” is a live online conversation between Abeni Jones and Julia about her new book Sexed Up, hosted by California Institute of Integral Studies. July 14, 2022 -- Julia will be reading from Sexed Up, and engaging in conversation about the book with Jude Doyle, at a virtual event hosted by the NYC bookstore Bluestockings. The event is from 7 - 8:30pm EDT (4 - 5:30pm PDT), tickets are $0 - $15, register for the event here.

June 11, 2022 -- Julia will be reading from her new book Sexed Up at Writers With Drinks, along with Kirstin Chen (Counterfeit), Jon Papernick (I Am My Beloveds), Shelly Oria (I Know What's Best For You: Stories on Reproductive Freedom), and more! Cost: $5 to $20, no-one turned away, all proceeds benefit a local non-profit TBA. September 5, 2021 -- Julia will be (virtually) reading at the Beast Crawl Literary Festival. Specifically, the #we reading, hosted by Richard Loranger; the other features are Shilpa Kamat, Hilary Brown, Jan Steckel, and Juba Kalamka. July 11, 2021 -- Julia will be doing her first IRL book reading since the Before Times! The event is Authors on the Street, a FREE, IN PERSON, OUTDOOR book reading hosted by Charlie Jane Anders, and also featuring Bonnie Tsui, Juli Delgado Lopera, Dr. Jen Gunter, and Andrea Stewart. Julia will be reading from her recently award-winning book 99 Erics: a Kat Cataclysm faux novel. May 10, 2021 -- Julia’s latest book, 99 Erics: a Kat Cataclysm faux novel, was recently announced as a finalist for the Publishing Triangle’s 2021 Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction! She will be reading from the book at the May 10th Publishing Triangle Awards Finalists Reading, details at the link.

March 24, 2021 -- Julia will participate in a virtual panel on “TRANSforming Feminism: Building A More Inclusive Movement” at Queens College in the City University of New York/CUNY on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 12:15pm to 1:30pm. Details can be found here.

January 28, 2021 -- Julia will participate in a virtual conversation with Koa Beck about her new book White Feminism and more generally about inclusion/exclusion within feminist movements. June 5, 2016 -- Julia will participate in a “Disruptors: Writing for Social Change” panel discussion along with Aya de Leon, Chinaka Hodge (moderating), and Rebecca Solnit - from 5:00 - 6:15 PM at The Brower Center, Goldman Theater. The event will be part of The Bay Area Book Festival - sessions are free but may fill up, so you may need to register or reserve seats. March 25 to 31, 2016 -- Julia will be joining the Sister Spit 2016 tour, which will also include Jezebel Delilah, Juliana Delgado Lopera, Julia Serano, Nikki Darling, Cassie J. Sneider, Maisha Z. March 24, 2011 -- Julia will be hosting the third annual Girl Talk: A Trans & Cis Woman Dialogue show! Girl Talk is a spoken word show curated by myself, Gina de Vries and Elena Rose, and intended to foster dialogue about the myriad relationships and overlapping issues that exist between queer cisgender (i.e., nontransgender) and transgender women. In past years, the show has taken place in June as part of the National Queer Arts Festival, but this year the Queer Cultural Center (who organizes the festival) suggested that we have the show in March as part of Women’s History Month! This year’s performers are TBA, but the cast will include Gina de Vries, Tobi Hill-Meyer, Marlene Hoeber, Sadie Lune, Elena Rose, and Rachel Rubin. The show will be held at the S.F.
